Bleeding during sex

Question:
When I have sex I bleed a little bit. Lately when I am having sex when we are done there is blood on the condom. Is there something wrong with me?

Answer:
Let's not jump to conclusions. There are many reasons why you might be bleeding during or after sex and not all require medical attention.

Vaginal Tears
Your body as part of the sexual response cycle creates it's own lubricants. During arousal the vaginal walls secrete fluids to lubricate the vagina decrease friction during penetration. Some women create enough lubricant and some women don't. It doesn't mean there is anything wrong with you. If you think that you are a little dry, try using lube. The bleeding may be caused by vaginal tears (micro tears) to the vaginal walls or the vulva. Remember: If it hurts...STOP! Sex isn't supposed to be painful (unless you like pain). These tears usually will heal in about 3 days as long as you avoid any further irritation such as penetration by penis, finger, and/or toys. Avoid using tampons if it is that time of the month.

STI's
Some STI's can have symptoms of bleeding, Chlamydia in particular. If there is any chance that you may have an STI, consult with a heath care provider for testing and possible treatment. Remember you don't have to have penis/vagina sex to contract an STI.

Polyps or Fibroids
Polyps and fibroids can grow in and around the uterus and/or cervix. They are little growths sometimes resembling a fig. You can't tell if you have polyps or fibroids yourself, you need to see a health care provider to diagnose you.

You may be experiencing one, all or none of these but if you are experiencing pain as well as bleeding always consult your doctor/gynecologist to get checked out. There are a number of other reasons that you may be experiencing vaginal bleeding as well so it is best to consult a healthcare provider.

  1. Excellent Boom Boom today.

Is there a certain lube you recommend, esp if one suffers from vaginal tearing?

  2. lube, lube, lube and more lube. You want to use a water based lubricant like KY or Wet. Just make sure that you use lube on the condom and but some on your finger and insert into your vagina as well. If you are prone to vaginal tears, wetter is better.

Remember if you are bleeding make sure you take a rest for a few days to let them heal before tearing it up (bad choice of words here).
